Autel is one of those brands you come across everywhere once you delve into the world of car diagnostics, from the simple OBD2 reader to the professional MaxiSys tablet on the lift. But there are a few things about Autel that most people don't immediately know. We've compiled the five most interesting and useful ones.
Autel started with car diagnostics but has since grown into a technology company that also builds drones and heavily invests in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. So, if you look up "Autel," you'll find both garages and drone enthusiasts. For us, and for you as an auto mechanic or car enthusiast, the core remains, of course, the diagnostic branch.
From a compact OBD2 scanner you use at home to read a check engine light, to the MaxiSys Ultra found in professional garages: Autel deliberately builds a complete product line. If you're torn between an entry-level model and a full-fledged tablet, focus on what you need: just reading fault codes, or also performing codings and bi-directional tests.
When garages talk about "an Autel," they usually mean a device from the MaxiSys family. These tablets combine a large screen, broad brand coverage, and advanced functions like ECU programming. For those who work daily with different car brands, this is often the tool that makes the difference between "suspecting something" and "knowing exactly what's wrong."
This is the least known fact for many people. Besides diagnostic tools, Autel also markets charging stations for electric vehicles, such as the MaxiCharger. With the rise of electric driving, this is less coincidental than it seems: the same company that knows how a car is electronically put together now applies that knowledge to the charging station next to your home or garage.
You don't buy an Autel scanner for just one year. New car models and new systems require regular software updates. Therefore, always check, before purchasing a device, how long updates are included and what an extension costs. That ultimately helps determine how cost-effective your purchase truly is in the long term.
Is an Autel scanner suitable for home use? Absolutely. The simpler OBD2 models are perfect for anyone who wants to read diagnostic trouble codes themselves, without immediately having to go to the garage.
What's the difference between Autel and brands like ThinkCar or Launch? Autel generally positions itself a bit higher in price, with more extensive professional features. ThinkCar is often a cheaper entry-level alternative, while Launch competes with Autel in the professional segment.
Can I also maintain my charging station with an Autel tool? No, these are two separate product lines. The diagnostic tools are for your car; the MaxiCharger charging stations are a separate device for home charging.
Autel is more than a name on a diagnostic tool: it's a brand that broadly invests in everything related to the car of the future, from fault codes to charging stations. Are you looking for the right Autel scanner for your situation, or perhaps a charging station to charge your electric car at home? Feel free to contact us, and we'll help you make the right choice.
