CAN FD vs DoIP: Which Diagnostic Tool Does Your Workshop Need?
Modern vehicles use CAN FD (faster CAN bus) and DoIP (Diagnostics over IP via Ethernet) alongside classic CAN and OBD-II. A scanner without these protocols cannot communicate with many 2018+ European models.
Before buying, check which brands and model years you service most. Entry tools may only support OBD-II; professional tablets from Autel, ThinkCar and similar brands add CAN FD and DoIP on mid-range and flagship models.
